Hey everyone, we're finally getting some time to look toward the future. So I did a little research on possible series that might be meaningful here at Crossroads and I wanted your opinions. Some are from other churches, some are just my ideas. Which ones do you like? Any you don't like? Any other ideas? Post your ideas if you get the chance. Thanks!

For the Who Am I? series, how about it being on who God is so peope know who they're following and why. (We focus a lot on who we are and our problems, but not on who God is.)
ReplyDeletePeople don't know the real God or the real Jesus. They don't respect Him, fear Him or even believe in Him. They have the world's view of a Santa Claus god-figure or a magic genie Jesus (I wish for...I need...). What would it look like if we really knew God? What would our worship be like? What would our conversations be about? If we knew the real God of the universe (can we?) the gods of this world, like $, fame, and power would dim and not be so attractive. We don't need to make God attractive, we just need to be honest and tell people who He really is. (The Holy Spirit can do the attracting.)
We could do a summer Proverbs series. It encompasses a lot of the themes mentioned in the series.
I love the "You asked" series. This would be a great way to help new believers or seekers know God's truth in answers to the hard questions. (And it would help us know our audience.)
I love a lot of these ideas. Sex for Sale really speaks to my generation in a huge way. I think it is important to repair some of the misconceptions of sex and sexuality, especially for our females raised within the church.
ReplyDeleteVintage Church sounds great. I love the idea.
Vent...wow, so many people deal with anger. I think it is a needed message.
Could we do something that somehow addresses addiction? I think so many people are faced with addictions, though drug/alcohol are first that come to mind, there are also a lot of others. This could also deal with worth and self image.

Denise,
ReplyDeleteI like the thoughts. I think that's what I was thinking with the True(ish) and Urban Legends ideas. Trying to get at who God really is and what it really means to be a Christian, beyond what we've made of it.
And Alicia, I think you're right about an addiction series. We should do something like that for sure.
Andrew
I'd like to add another subject: ' I'ts Not About Me. ' I am reading such titled book, currently. Focusing on SELF causes fear, depression, anxiety. Focusing on others brings balance, thanksgiving, perspective. Denise, you said it...focus on WHO God is, not who we are or are not. How about a Summer Challenge : Help Someone Who is WORSE off than me. Song by Martina McBride called God's Will.
ReplyDeleteBack to the whole True(is) and Urban Legands idea, I keep thinking about the book Lord Save Us From Your Followers by Dan Merchant. It did a great job at calling us out and saying "Hey! That isn't what Jesus was doing!" Just a thought.
